A man was convicted of killing three people—including a local pastor—and courts are deciding whether he will be executed or spend his life in prison.

Andres Avalos Jr. allegedly killed his wife, Amber Avalos; neighbor Denise Potter; and Rev. James "Tripp" Battle III on Dec. 4, 2014, according to the Miami Herald.

Reports say Avalos admitted to taking a painkiller the morning of the murder as well as using cocaine the day before.

Rev. Battle's wife testified that Avalos believed his wife and Battle were having an affair. After strangling and shooting his wife, Avalos allegedly went to Battle's church and fatally shot him.

Defense attorneys say Avalos was battling a delusional disorder at the time of the murders, reports the Associated Press.
