A Texas megachurch will raffle off free mortgage payments for attendees at its New Year's Day service.

Facebook flier proclaims "You don't want to miss this!" with text advertising free mortgage and rent payment raffles during New Light Christian Center Church's January 1 service.

Details about the giveaway weren't immediately available.

Nearly 30,000 members attend the Houston-area church, according to the NLCCC website. The church boasts multiple campuses across the state.

The church has specific standards for holiday celebrations, New Year's Day included. The website reads

New Year's, Valentine's and even Thanksgiving are celebrated in ways so contrary to the walk of holiness or sanctification that we, as Christians, need to take a hard look at the effect these times have on our relationship with God. The acid test of all behavior is in asking a simple question: "Would Jesus participate in this?" Why should this test be avoided where holidays and traditions are concerned?

The following is an overview of customs and origins of holidays popularly celebrated in the United States. Some are omitted, such as Presidents' Day, Flag Day and more. These are memorial or commemorative observances for the purpose of remembering our heritage and honoring national heroes and/or accomplishments, and their meaning, symbolism and traditions are not particularly controversial. The facts stated here are readily available from most collegiate encyclopedias.
