When the Spirit leads you, you don’t necessarily have time to weigh it. Such is the case for three young women who are being hailed as heroes for saving the lives of three girls who were drowning.

For Kayla Smith, Meredith Goggins and Lupe Serrano, it was about letting God move through them.

“It wasn’t us that was out there. It was totally God,” Smith tells AL.com. “My lifeguard walks on water.”

For their actions, the three women have received commendations from the state of Alabama.

“…Indeed a courageous young lady, the selfless actions of Kayla Smith are the source of justifiable pride to her family and friends; we are extremely proud of her heroism and Kayla Smith is most deserving of special distinction and praise for her efforts,” the commendation for Smith reads.
