Church of God Urges Prayer for Boston Marathon Bombing Victims

Church of God General Overseer Mark Williams has posted an appeal for prayer for the victims of Monday’s explosions in Boston. The video is posted on the Church of God’s website, on ourcog.com and on social media outlets Twitter and Facebook. The video is also posted below.

Williams addresses the events surrounding the 117th Boston Marathon and offers prayers of grace for the United States, which he says has experienced “another senseless act of violence.” Williams references the fact that at the start of the race, moments of silence were observed by race organizers for the 26 victims of the Newtown, Conn., shooting victims, only to have their own terror situation come to pass as explosions took place just a few hours later at the finish line on Boylston Street.

As the events unfolded Monday, concern arose on the Lee University campus, as students and employees wondered about the welfare of Lee's president, Dr. Paul Conn, who was in Boston at the time of the explosions. A statement from Lee's vice president, Dr. Walt Mauldin, said the president and Mrs. Conn “were at the Boston Marathon finish line early this morning but left before the explosions. They are safe and out of harm’s way. However, please be in prayer for those that were injured and for the families of those that lost their lives today.”
