A pastor was handcuffed and taken into federal custody Thursday for his role in a dispute between an ex-lesbian and her former gay partner.

Pastor Kenneth Miller of Stuarts Draft, Va., cited his religious beliefs for refusing a court order to testify in the case that’s now before a grand jury.

The case centers around Lisa Miller, who is unrelated to Kenneth Miller, and her daughter Isabella.

Pastor Miller was convicted of helping Ms. Miller and her daughter escape the country. He has declined to tell the grand jury Lisa Miller’s whereabouts and who else may have helped her escape.

Ms. Miller and her daughter fled the United States in 2009 in the middle of a custody battle with Ms. Miller’s former partner, Janet Jenkins.

Ms. Miller is Isabella’s biological mother. Miller and Jenkins were joined together in a civil union in Vermont. Then Miller became a born-again Christian and left the homosexual lifestyle.

Lisa Miller and Isabella are believed to now be in Nicaragua.

Two months after Ms. Miller and her daughter disappeared, a Vermont family court judge transferred custody of the girl to Jenkins.

The federal judge in the current case has scheduled another hearing in a week. He wants to see if Pastor Miller will change his mind and agree to testify.

What would you have done in his position?
