Investigation Into Intelligence Leaks Ordered

One of the biggest aspects of the spirit of Leviathan's deadly grip over the administration of President Donald Trump has been the steady stream of leaks coming from the nation's intelligence community.

But those who have been charged with safeguarding American secrets shared one secret too many with the press this week when someone in the intelligence community leaked details of the ongoing terrorism investigation in the United Kingdom following the Manchester concert bombing. British Prime Minister Theresa May has been outraged by the lack of discretion, and ordered her own intelligence services to stop sharing information about the investigation with the CIA and FBI.

The president has ordered the Department of Justice to fully investigate the leaks, and if that wasn't enough of a fire lit under them, bipartisan calls from Congress—demanding action—likely did. Shortly after the president condemned the leaks during a speech at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, the White House released the following statement, which was attributed to the president:

The alleged leaks coming out of government agencies are deeply troubling. These leaks have been going on for a long time and my administration will get to the bottom of this. The leaks of sensitive information pose a grave threat to our national security.

I am asking the Department of Justice and other relevant agencies to launch a complete review of this matter, and if appropriate, the culprit should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

There is no relationship we cherish more than the special relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom."

It appears the message was received loud and clear in the Department of Justice. Attorney General Jeff Sessions issued the following statement shortly after the president's comments were made public:

"I share the president's deep concern and talked to Home Secretary Rudd yesterday about this matter. These leaks cannot be tolerated and we will make every effort to put an end to it. We have already initiated appropriate steps to address these rampant leaks that undermine our national security."
