Hundreds of Companies Have Given $3 Billion in ‘Crumbs’ to 4 Million American Workers

As American workers start seeing higher take-home pay, thanks to the tax cuts driven by President Donald Trump, the bonuses from American companies are quickly adding up.

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise keeps a running total of tax reform benefits on his website and says that 4 million workers have been given $3 billion in bonuses from 300 companies.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, however, can’t seem to get in on the excitement. Last month, she famously said $1,000 bonuses for American workers were merely “crumbs” in comparison to the huge tax savings companies were seeing. But in 2011, according to Fox News, Pelosi touted a $40 payroll tax cut passed by President Obama as “a victory for all Americans” that will “make a difference.”

Stephen E. Strang, author of the best-selling book God and Donald Trump, says the tangible results of tax reform are now being felt where it counts—in wallets—despite what Trump’s detractors say.

“President Trump promised a renewed focus on jobs, business and creating a more favorable trade balance for U.S. manufacturing,” Strang writes in God and Donald Trump. “For too long, blue-collar communities have seen their factories closed down and their jobs shipped overseas. America’s mounting trade deficit and destabilized manufacturing base have impoverished entire regions of the country. Once proud coal-mining communities have been devastated, and families have been ripped apart. For many voters, the promise of a new focus on jobs and infrastructure was the No. 1 reason for supporting Donald Trump. With his record of success in the business world, they trusted his ability to revise the tax code, reduce burdens on employers, strengthen the business climate and put Americans back to work.

“Trump’s plan, even on the campaign trail well over a year ago, began with pro-growth tax reform and lower rates for Americans in every tax bracket,” Strang added. “After a hard-fought road, Congress did indeed simplify the tax code and lower the corporate tax rate, which was one of the highest in the world. As a job creator and businessman himself, the president knows the importance of getting Washington out of the way and letting business owners do what they do best.”

Republican lawmakers aren’t letting Pelosi’s “crummy” comment fall by the wayside. In a nod to her epic choice of words, Rep. Todd Rokita. R-Ind., is unveiling the “Creating Relief and Useful Middle-Class Benefits and Savings”—or CRUMBS—Act, which would make bonuses received by workers in 2018 tax-free up to $2,500, Fox News also reported.

Strang is an award-winning journalist and successful businessman who began his career as a newspaper reporter at the Orlando Sentinel. He later founded a Christian publishing house and media company while interviewing and writing about nearly every Christian leader in the country over the past four decades.
