What Is America’s ‘Official Religion’?

Share:

In a democratic republic, the citizens get the leadership they deserve. And rightly so. America’s “original” 17th-century founders placed God at the center of government and culture, thus establishing Christianity in a way as the “official religion of America.” Reading the 13 original colonies’ state charters and constitutions, or the synopsis by William J. Federer, will demonstrate the truth and correctness of this statement.

Yet, contemporary America has grievously dishonored God. Eight secular U.S. Supreme Court Justices in 1963 replaced His worship with the new, false religion of secularism in a nation “founded for the glory of God and advancement of the Christian faith,” according to the Mayflower Compact.

The decision initiated the plunge toward an increasingly profane, irreverent culture, whose 21st-century youth are completely caught up in self-absorbed sensuality, indulgence and promiscuity. The edicts of purported reform by the liberal Warren Supreme Court (1953-1969) turned out to be nothing else than a crusade against standards.

The U.S. Supreme Court’s unholy crusade carries on unchanged:
– Removal of prayer from public education (1962).
– Removal of the Bible from public education (1963.
– Discovery of a constitutional right to kill babies (1973).
– Removal of the Ten Commandments from pubic school buildings (1980).
– Discovery of an occult, all-new constitutional right to homosexual intercourse and marriage (2015).

One of the major sources of last century’s cultural friction in America would appear to be the judicial elites’ blatant ill-will towards God. All cloaked and concealed with serpentine skill, secularists have abrogated the culture laid down as biblically based by America’s founders 400 years before.

Inverse to the Founding Fathers’ model, unhallowed decisions by the U.S. Supreme Court have somehow come to be accepted as “supreme” mandates superordinate to the collective will of a “free people.” Where are the limits imposed in the Constitution on all branches of government by vesting in each branch the right to amend or void those acts of another that fall within its purview?

The job description of justices includes calling “balls and strikes” but not “pitch or bat.” Court umpires don’t make the rules; they apply them. Yet modern superior and inferior courts have randomly generated laws out of thin air, positioning themselves as America’s lordship.

Over the last century, a pattern is beginning to emerge of judges dabbling in religion, ethics, philosophy and psychology. Devising decrees and writs on whom to worship (Abington School District v. Schempp), how to worship (Stone v. Graham) and defining moral law (Obergefell vs. Hodges), all fettered in conformity to their “nature” instead of the spirit of God Jehovah. Only God determines good and evil, whereas the U.S. Supreme Court’s unholy crusade determines the nature of the transgression. Like Eve, Supreme Court Justices have eaten of the forbidden fruit, with the false demonic promise “You will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

In the American Founders’ model of government, God was the wellspring of rights. The crux of the problem of squandering the Judeo-Christian culture is, as Solomon points out in Proverbs 24:7a (ISV): “Wisdom lies beyond reach of the fool.” The founders, on the other hand, “were wise to not separate God from state. The placement of Judeo-Christian values and biblical morality into our founding documents and laws was clearly intentional,” according to Richard G. Lee, The American Patriot’s Bible: The Word of God and the Shaping of America.

Founder Benjamin Rush put the right words to it:

The only foundation for a useful education in a republic is to be laid in religion. Without this there can be no virtue, and without virtue there can be no liberty; and liberty is the object and life of all republican governments. … We waste so much time and money in punishing crimes and take so little pains to prevent them. We profess to be republicans and yet we neglect the only means of establishing and perpetuating our republican forms of government, that is, the universal education of our youth in the principles of Christianity, by means of the Bible; for this divine book, above all others favors that equality among mankind, that respect for just laws.

With this in mind, is it any surprise that modern America lost the culture?

Today’s ludicrous heathen gentry’s mantra that “Religion doesn’t belong in government; just ask the Founding Fathers” sets in a stark light the abject failure of secular education. Those who buy into the pagan falsehood that “The First Amendment has made it clear that there can be no teaching of religion, including the Bible, in public education” are historically illiterate, having been sold a heap of secular moonshine.

Solomon expounds on the problem facing America that wisdom is beyond the fool’s reach. Wisdom’s currency cannot be acquired through secular education, inasmuch as the fool has no heart for understanding spiritual issues. The reason spiritual wisdom and understanding, as it says in Proverbs 3:15, is “more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her” is that “money can put food on the table, but not fellowship around it, a house but not a home, and can give a woman jewelry but not the love she really wants,” according to Bruce K. Waltk’s Proverbs Commentary.

God’s admonishment of “getting wisdom (whatever you do),” is to be taken with the understanding that the Hebrew word for “get” is “buy” or “purchase.” So whatever you do, obtain wisdom. For all seeking His wisdom, God has wisely placed His cookies on the bottom shelf. In Proverbs: An Introduction and Commentary, Derek Kidner says, “What wisdom takes is not brains or opportunity, but decision. Do you want it? Come and get it.”

Contemporary American politics has been sadly reduced to the lowest common denominator, that is, Republicans versus Democrats.

God be praised that Gideons and Rahabs are beginning to stand.
