2 Powerful Truths the Death of Sy Rogers Teaches Us

Share:

The loss of Sy Rogers was a jolt that reminded us how precious life is and causes us to realize that we really have no time to waste. He helped so many come out of homosexuality. He used what was in him to help others. It was his legacy to leave behind. Losing this phenomenal pastor and speaker who positively influenced the lives of many can only make us look at our own lives. What are we doing with our gifts and talents to touch the world around us? Are we in a position to be used by our heavenly Father to impact the lives of others? How precious do we value each moment that God gives to us?

Here are two great truths that are often ignored. The first truth we all must face is that time is short. The second is, eternity is long and unending. These truths become our reality often when it is too late and tragedy has struck. Most of us live our lives without any thought that one day we will not be here, and our life will cease. There will come a time where our lives will collide with eternity and the reality of how precious each moment was will stare us right in the face.

Time is that one thing we have right now but are not assured of in the future. There are no guarantees. There is only hope in our God to take us through each moment. Time is not to be taken for granted or used unwisely. Time should be embraced and met with an attitude of gratitude. There are many who wished they had more of it, but it is long gone from their grasps. They have come to their end and their choices have determined their position in eternity. Each moment we breathe is a moment God has given us to enjoy and to make the most out of it.

Paul admonishes us to be wise with our time and to make full use of opportunities to do the will of God (Eph. 5:15-17). What do you do with your time? Where does God fit in your day-to-day routines? Does God have a say in your plans? Do you get the most out of each moment or does each moment get the most out of you? When it is all said and done, can you boldly stand before God and declare you have done His will and lived the best life you could live before Him?

There are so many things in this life that can distract us or make us lose sight of the shortness of time. We can easily get caught up in living for the moment and indulging in worldly and fleshly desires. We all have been guilty. It is the battle of the ages, the flesh warring against the spirit (Gal. 5:17). There is a fight within that tends to make us take time for granted and become complacent and procrastinate. It is, however, a fight we can win through Christ. Through Christ, we are more than conquerors and able to overcome.

Your potential, gifts and talents should never lay dormant or die. There are so many people who could use what God has placed on the inside of you. There are people who watch your life and want to see hope and love. Christ in you is the hope of the world. Do not let your legacy and the impact that you can have on others go to the grave and never touch a life. Do not allow your gifts to never bless the hearts of those who can really use them. Fight through the adversities of this life. Let us press to obtain God’s will over our own so that lives can be changed for His glory. We have it in us to succeed. God is for us and never against us. Trust in His will. Trust in His way. His plans always work out for our good.

I read this somewhere: “Only one life to live will soon be past; only what’s done for Christ will last.”
