Movements May Change, but Here's Why Kingdom Mandates Don't

The ever-changing winds of society seem to have hit an all-new acceleration point. Each day we wake up, there is a new uncertainty of what the day will bring.

As current events post into our social media feeds, humans are frenzied with offense and blame. It's not limited to the secular world, but Christians too, brother against brother, and sister against sister.

This resounding biblical truth in Paul's words from Hebrews 12:28 has played over and over in my spirit. "Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be moved, let us be gracious, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear."

Since the kingdom we receive is unshakable, when the world around us seems to convulse hourly, our response doesn't need to come from rash compulsions. Instead, we are able to respond as instructed in James 1:19, "Therefore, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger."

Dr. Marlene Carson is a woman who understands these truths. Dr. Carson is one of America's foremost authorities on the subject of human trafficking, not because of textbook knowledge, but from her own experience. At age 15, she became one of the tens of thousands of girls and young adult women who are exploited in sex trafficking daily. Today, she serves as a member of the U.S. Advisory Council on trafficking with the Trump administration.

If anyone has a right to be offended by the injustice in our world, it's Dr. Carson. When asked what the decision was like for her as a black woman to accept a position to assist the Trump administration, Dr. Carson answered, "I understand my mandate. When you know who you are, no one can stop you from what you have to do. I understand I have to speak this truth because it's bigger than me, and it's not about me. When you know what you have to do, you just continue to do it and let God deal with the rest."
