Pastor: Woman’s Hearing Impairment Healed During Baptism

Pastor Dennis Funderburg says even if you’re saved, if you’ve never been baptized in water, you can’t fulfill all the plans God has for your life. He says failing to get baptized also opens you up to spiritual warfare attacks. In fact, baptism can even bring about physical healing, something Funderburg witnessed firsthand.

“One of my relatives had a hearing condition since she was a little kid,” Funderburg says. “It was really bad; it would make certain sounds magnify times 100 in her ears, and it would just echo over and over again. It was tormenting her. And one night I got to baptize her and her husband. … But as I was about to water baptize her, I told her, ‘When you go under, you are laying your old self down, and when you raise up, you raise up as a brand-new person. And any conditions you may have, it has to stay with the old nature.’

“I touched her ears, and I said, ‘Sweetheart, everything can stay.’ And it was an emotional moment; it was beautiful. I lowered her into the water, I brought her back up and the hearing condition left. She hasn’t struggled with it anywhere near to the degree that she used to. And I mean, I’m talking like 90% different. And so praise God for that. It showed me that there is absolutely something incredible about water baptism.”

If you’re having trouble feeling close to God or hearing Him, you may be missing a critical action step in your walk with Christ, Funderburg says on the Jesus Is Still Jesus podcast on the Charisma Podcast Network. Funderburg says there are several questions you should answer: Do you believe you’re saved? Do you have any unconfessed sin? Do you need to forgive anyone? Have you been baptized?

“When the enemy comes attacking and starts mentioning your old nature, your old history, you can simply say, ‘Well, you’re accusing a dead person. That person died a long time ago; that person drowned in a baptismal somewhere,'” Funderburg says.
