He Was Hospitalized With an Overdose When He Saw the Holy Spirit and a Demon Fighting for His Life

Joshua Reyes remembers the moment as if it happened yesterday, not years ago.

“When I opened my eyes, I promise, it looked like there was a fog that entered the room, like a thickness in the atmosphere,” Reyes, now a pastor, says. “And I actually could see a black figure trying to come into the room twice, and it couldn’t come into the room because the white fog was so thick. And I just remember thinking, ‘This is the Holy Spirit. This is real. This is insane. God is real, and He’s going to give me another chance.'”

Reyes had the encounter in the hospital. Hours before, he’d overdosed on some sort of pill and doctors could basically do nothing but keep him hydrated. With the drugs coursing through his system, he should have died.

Hours before the encounter, Reyes’ identity was in homosexuality. He was a go-go dancer at a local club, constantly searching for that next high. That night, his best friend had just been diagnosed with HIV, and Reyes knew he would be next.

It was the moment that changed his life.

“I called my parents and I told them, ‘Hey, I’ve had a wake-up call and I’m coming back home,'” Reyes says. When his parents arrived at the hospital, he told them, “I was so blind. I was so blind, but that’s OK, because I see now.”

Reyes now leads SoulFire Revival Center.
