Leah Remini revealed Tom Cruise pressured her to get CBS' Scientology expose story killed, lest they "try to destroy you and your family."

Remini says Cruise told her to call CBS executive Les Moonves and demand he squash the the expose.

Remini tells The Hollywood Reporter:

Yep. So I called Les Moonves, even though I was really uncomfortable with it. And he said, "Listen—you're not the only one who has called me about this, and I have no right to interject my opinion of what I like or don't like with the news organization of CBS, and I will absolutely not engage this conversation. I'll tell you or anyone else who calls me." He said, "I don't give a (expletive) if it's you, if it's Tom Cruise, if it's Jenna Elfman, you're all going to get the same story from me." And I said, "OK." And then I called them back and said, "Hey, I tried."

Remini's new show, Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath, chronicles her life after she left the cult in 2013.

"I was watching high executives, former executives of the church leaving and speaking out about abuses and things that they've experienced while working for the church, and I saw how the church reacted. I felt I had a responsibility to say, 'I'm not going to allow you to bully these people who were very brave to come out and tell their stories,'" Remini says.

She says once people leave Scientology, the church does everything in its power to "try to destroy you and your family."

"And that's from executives. But there are just average parishioners like me who leave and speak out about what they've experienced, they lose their family. The church goes after their family to shun their family, oftentimes. I'm very lucky that that didn't happen to me. My family chose me."
